Our Savior Lutheran - Thomaston, CT

 
The Womens' Group holds their monthly meetings the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 am in the church conference room. All women in our congregation are welcome to attend. Anyone interested in more information may contact me (Carol Habersang) or any group member.
 
We continue to help the local community every year by contributing a Thanksgiving Basket that is delivered to a local family in need. We also continued our support of Camp Calumet. Needed items by the camp were purchased by our group and will be delivered to the camp in June. We also continue to collect Labonnes' receipts which helps to defray the cost of good cheer. Linda Howard continues to collect soda can tabs to support the Wounded Warriors Project. All of our members are also members of the Lutheran Home of Southbury's Guild and support them during the holiday season. Memorial Day Altar flowers have been donated by our group again this year, as well as a donation for outdoor flowers at church. We have also taken a fieldtrip to Hurd House in Woodbury, earlier this year, for a demonstration on colonial hearth cooking given by Sue Cheatham.
 
Several women in our congregation attended the Naugatuck Valley Conference of the Women of the ELCA Spring Gathering held in April at St. Paul's Lutheran in Torrington. One highlight of the day was guest speaker, Debbie Van Steenbegen, the founder and director of Quilts that Care. It is so wonderful that this organization has grown so much that they have been able to contribute 1,200 quilts to cancer patients in the area in just this last year alone! It is also amazing how many people are so giving in so many ways.
 
We will be holding our final meeting of the season at Curtis House on Tuesday, June 14th at 12:30 pm and will commence our regular meeting in the fall. As always, all are invited to attend.

Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory.

We are indeed blessed to be able to come to the Lord’s Table every Sunday and join in the Sacrament of our Lord. This world is enduring some very difficult times, where people, not only lose their homes, but their places of worship. We can only hope that where two or three are gathered, they may pray to their Lord God.
We are blessed to be able to have communion every Sunday and are able to send out Ministers of Holy Communion of the Assembly to those who cannot worship with us. We are trying to share that “light.”
We are blessed to have healing services which help “light” our hearts and souls as nothing else can.
Lord, the light of your love is shining, in the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, light of the world shine upon us, set us free by the truth you now bring us.
We are blessed to have a Crochet and Knit Ministry that makes prayer shawls, blankets and scarves that we can give to those who are in need. These are dedicated in the worship service and their “light” is shared.
We are blessed to have ministers of music, Jennie and the Choir. Their sung messages are sharing the “light” of God through all the seasons.
We are blessed to have so many volunteers, who prepare the altar, make banners, help serve the communion, carry the cross, assist in the worship service, and reading God’s meaningful words. This “light” is ongoing throughout our worship service.
We are blessed to have a loving and caring minister whose “light” shines through all he does; from teaching us about our Lord, to making the worship space appropriate to the seasons, to bringing in new members and being there when needed.
As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory, mirrored here may our lives tell your story
“Shine on me. Shine on me.”
Thank you to the members of the Worship Committee; Susan Cheatham, Sandy Talbot, Rachel Foster, Ellie Gollenberg, Jennie Kerney, and Pastor G.  This committee meets monthly to be sure that our worship services “flow” through the seasons.
