Several years ago we started an experiment.  Our Sunday School was dwindling in size and enthusiasm.  Teachers were tired and hard to find.  Parents sometimes were forced to make a decision whether to bring their child to Sunday School or to worship because spending the whole morning at church was tough.

After a long time discussing the dilemma a planning team realized a few important things:

First, what’s most important among us is worship on Sunday morning.  Nothing should get in the way of the Body of Christ gathering to hear the Word and celebrate the Sacraments.

Second, parents promise to bring their children to the services of God’s house when the children are baptized and the congregation needs to do all it can to encourage and support families in that process.

Third, the only way children will learn the liturgy, learn to pray, learn to sing, learn to listen, is by watching faithful parents and mentors do it on Sunday.

Fourth, we discovered how important being together was at social events like our annual picnic and pot-luck suppers.

So, we decided to try having Sunday School on Tuesday evenings  beginning with a simple meal, continuing with a lesson for all ages in the same room learning together, concluding with songs and prayers.

It’s been working.  We gather between 30 – 60 people on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM.  It’s been an exciting road to travel.  We’ve produced T-shirts for all who attend.  We spent a year learning about the Ten Commandments.  We spent a couple of months learning about Martin Luther, his life, his teachings, and his Small Catechism.  We spent many months learning about Prayer Power as we studied The Lord’s Prayer.  Our 2004-2005 theme was "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord". We produced our own CD with songs that will touch the heart and faith of all who listen.  We give away our T-shirts and CD’s so that everyone we come in contact with will have a reminder of the grace of God.

The 2005 - 2006 TNSS started September 20, 2005 at 6:00 pm.  We had 72 people join us in kicking off the theme for the year ! ! !  This included 4 families who had three generations  present to learn and to share their faith.

Our theme for 2006 - 2207 was  "And God said....".

Our theme for 2007 - 2008 was "Let your light shine!".

Everyone, all ages, is invited to TNSS.”  We start in mid-September, take a break around Christmas, resume in January, and  continue during Lent

The 2008 - 2009 TNSS theme is

"I AM"

We started in September with Moses and the Ten Commandments.
