Crochet/Knitting Ministry
  Crochet/Knitting Ministry

The mission of  the Our Savior Lutheran Church Crochet/Knit Ministry is to help anyone struggling through a time of transition, crisis, or need by providing them with handmade knitted and crocheted garments which are intended to be a physical reminder to the persons receiving them that they are being covered in prayer and wrapped in God's love.  The Crochet/Knit Ministry continues to make prayer shawls, lap blankets, hats and scarves, as well as taking on a different project; Plarn Mats! Plarn is plastic yarn made out of plastic grocery shopping bags. These were made and given to homeless folks. The idea is to make it possible for them to not sleep on the cold, sometimes damp ground. The finished mat is six feet by three feet. It takes approximately 800- 900 bags to make one mat and many dedicated hours. First, you collect the bags, then you cut off the straps and the bottoms, then cut them into strips, and then roll them into balls of plarn, then you crochet them. We made three of these mats for distribution.  They were dedicated at a worship service, by Pastor, and then given out for distribution.
The members of this dedicated ministry are Carolyn Chesto, Tami Duda, Barb Howard, Linda Howard, Karen Ligi, Bev Sabia, Sandy Talbot, Lynne Kearney, and Geri Deluca, and until she moved, Rachel Foster. (We do miss you Rachel.) We invite anyone to join us. We meet monthly and will teach you to crochet or knit if you would like to learn. Contact any of the members if you are interested in joining this unique ministry.
