2017 Report from the Women’s Group
The Women's Group held their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 13th in the church conference room. All of our meetings are open to all women in the congregation as well as any field trips or special luncheons that are planned. Our meetings are held on a monthly basis the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 am unless there is a bad weather cancellation or plans to hold a special meeting elsewhere.
The Women's Group of Our Savior continues to assemble Thanksgiving Baskets for a chosen family or two each fall season. This year, we again collected items with the help of our congregation, for the Lutheran Home of Southbury's Shopping Spree held in November and collected items for their Love Cart. We also support the efforts of the Earth keeping Team who so lovingly beautifies our church lawn and plan to make our annual donation to Camp Calumet, as well.
We chose Curtis House in Woodbury for our annual Christmas Party on December 13th where we shared a grab bag, great food and conversation. A wonderful time was had by all!
Carol Varanko continues to collect Labonnes receipts which aids us in continuing certain program participation and to bring good cheer where needed.
During the winter months, we collected school supplies for Lutheran World Relief and plan to assemble school kits as we have in past years. Many thanks to Carol Varanko for all the shopping she does!
Several women in our congregation will be attending the Naugatuck Valley Conference of the Women of ELCA again this year on April 29 in Brookfield, CT. This conference is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with women from other churches in our area and share our ideas, concerns and inspirations.
Memorial Day flowers for the altar are again being donated by our Women's Group.
Rachel Foster, an active member of our group, has relocated to North Carolina to be closer to her family. We held a luncheon send off for her at Black Rock Tavern which was very well attended. Best wishes to Rachel! Thanks to all who shared in this celebration. We have also lost our long-time member Betty Emmons. We miss her so very much.
Our Savior Women's Group will begin our next year the second Tuesday of September 2017. We hope to see you then!
Respectfully submitted, Carol Habersang
